What makes candy non-vegan?

Most conventional candy contains at least one of these: gelatin (from animal bones and skin, used to make gummies chewy), shellac (from lac bugs, used to coat hard candy and make it shiny), carmine (red dye from crushed cochineal insects), or beeswax (used in some candy coatings).
